Start of work: 2005
This work on trees and views of woods presents the natural world in all its fragility, allowing it, however, to acquire a new power, so that it is both threatened and threatening, and frail and indomitable.
Pignatelli started to use photography in what is almost a sculptural manner: no longer merely a support for the image, the photographic paper becomes an integral part of it. This process occurs thanks to the plastic manipulation that transforms the photograph into sculpture: once the image has been printed on a large surface, the artist intervenes manually, crumpling it up - attacking it, one could say - in order to give the material the necessary plastic power to intensify the drama of the scene. This harsh treatment of the photographic paper and hence the image becomes a new way of 'bringing the world into the world'.
